Briare The Canal Bridge 7 km This metal Canal Bridge, built with the help of the famous engineer Eiffel, is the longest in Europe (663 metres). It allows both barges and pleasure boats to cross the Loire River. This is a very enjoyable walk with magnificent landscape views. Briare Saint-Etienne Church 7 km Built at the end of the last century in the Roman Byzantine style, this church is decorated with Briare Enamels, of course! Symbolic designs made of mosaïcs give this church its outstanding features. The Gien Old Bridge 19 km Built by Saint Louis (13th century) and modified by Anne de Beaujeu at the end of the XV th century, this 12 arche bridge is one of the oldest on the Loire river. The Castle of Gien 19 km The first castle located in the Loire Valley has overlooked Gien and the Loire river for 5 centuries. Anne de Beaujeu, daughter of Louis XI, was responsible of its beautiful stones and brick structure. The Gien Museum of Porcelain 19 km In the picturesque atmosphere of what used to be the factory cellar, you will appreciate the exceptional quality of the Gien porcelain : both utility-ware and objets d'art show a great variety of forms and original design. Castle of La Bussière 19 km Set in a magnificent park planted by Le Nôtre, the "Fishermen" Castle, built on stilts, is a real museum for the angler specialist. It has also a very nice kitchen garden from the XVIII th century. The guedelon adventure (Treigny) 41 km Work on the site began in 1997 and is scheduled to take 25 years to complete. Guédelon offers a unique opportunity to witness the different stages of a castle's construction, each phase being of interest in its own right. Let yourself be transported from the present day, back to the sights and sounds of a XIII th century construction site. Guédelon offers something for everyone: academics, historians, teachers, students and families. Castle of Saint Fargeau 30 km This magnificent castle dating from the 15th century is one of the most beautiful examples of French classicism. If you are in the area, be sure to visit it and its historic light and sound show, the old farm, the medieval town, the gramophone museum and the nearby Guedelon medieval construction site. Castle of Sully sur Loire 38 km Next castle after Gien along the Loire river, it has kept its medieval character. It was the owning of Mr. de Bethune, well-known as Sully, the superintendent of Henri 4th. During June and July every year, an international music festival takes place at the castle. Castle of Saint Brisson 10 km Lovely castle from the XII th century overlooks the southern slopes of the Loire valley. Visitors can enjoy walks in the grounds and a guided visit of this stately residence. Copies of medieval war machines are exhibited in the castle moats and you will appreciate the demonstrations during the summer. Sancerre 34 km Of architectural significance: Belfry of St. Jean, a 16th century bell tower built by the prosperous merchants of Sancerre; Tour des Fiefs (1390), the lone remaining tower of the feudal chateau; and the ruins of Saint Romble, a medieval church destroyed by the English. Maison des Sancerre: Wine exposition located in 14th-16th century house with tower. The city is a cobweb of twisted streets with many buildings surviving from the Middle Ages. Sancerre is "twinned" with the town of Eccleshall in England. ROGNY LES SEPT ECLUSES Lock (water transport) 24 km The construction of seven locks Rogny done under the command of Henri IV in 1605, to pass the canal waters Briare Trézée of the valley of the valley of the Loing was not completed until 1642.
